From exciting new courts in Essex to floating courts in Liverpool, there’s plenty of action happening. New Courts & Clubs
- Stansted Mountfitchet (Essex): PDL Padel United has just opened two panoramic courts at Mountfitchet Leisure Centre and is offering a full week of free coaching and social play for all abilities. Perfect for testing the game without spending a penny.
- Redbridge, London: Three covered courts are being built at Redbridge Sports Centre, giving East London year‑round play under a high‑quality canopy.
- Cheshire Oaks (North‑West): Ignite Padel launches a seven‑court, 24/7 complex this month with five championship‑standard indoor courts and two outdoor courts. Expect coaching, social tournaments and even a coffee shop.
- Floating courts in Liverpool: Construction is under way on the UK’s first floating padel club at Liverpool’s Princes Dock, a £1 million project featuring three water‑borne courts and a floating clubhouse.
- Game4Padel’s expansion: Britain’s largest operator plans to add 50 new courts in 2025, including new venues in Cottingham (Hull) and Draycott (Staffordshire). The company emphasises that padel is sociable and easy to pick up.
- Olympic Park pop‑ups: Playtime Padel has pop‑up courts at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London where players can book 60‑ or 120‑minute slots and use free equipment. It’s a fun way to sample padel against the backdrop of the Olympic stadium.
Other Big News
- House of Racquet: Lauren van der Westhuizen’s female‑led venture aims to make padel more inclusive by giving women and juniors more court time and creating a relaxed club culture.
- Pickleball crossover: PDL Padel United’s Colchester club now offers pickleball alongside padel, highlighting how both sports are easy to learn and accessible for all ages.
- The numbers: Great Britain now boasts more than 1,000 padel courts across 325 venues, up from just 68 courts in 2019.
Events & Socials
- The Padel Fiesta – Fri 16 Aug, Waltham Abbey (Essex): Padel meets party at Padel District. The evening starts with a 64‑player tournament, followed by free court access for casual play, a live DJ, BBQ and open bar. Rackets and balls are provided, newcomers are welcome and you can even come solo.
- Padel & Friends – Sat 23 Aug, Ilford (East London): This community event hosted by GrabTwo runs 6–8 pm at Rocket Padel Ilford. It’s designed for all skill levels: enjoy friendly matches, meet new people and refuel with provided water and snacks. Come on your own or bring a friend.
- Padel Event (Mentalk Ubuntu) – Sat 23 Aug, Manchester: MenTalk Ubuntu hosts a two‑hour padel social at The Pollen Club (1 pm). The event welcomes beginners and pros alike and aims to build community through sport. MenTalk Ubuntu is a community interest company promoting men’s mental health, so you can support a great cause while playing.
- Ultimate Padel Showdown – Sat 4 Oct, London: Courtsyde’s world‑series event at Rocket Padel Beckton promises “one night, four teams, one winner.” Expect explosive semi‑finals and a final with rapid‑fire 8‑minute quarters, DJs, food stalls and an after‑party. Not for the faint‑hearted, but an unforgettable night out.
Midlands Spotlight (because it’s our home turf)
New & Planned Courts
- Draycott, Staffordshire: Game4Padel’s two indoor courts at Draycott Racquet & Fitness Club are the first in the county. Stoke‑on‑Trent players no longer need to travel miles for a game.
- Sawley, Derbyshire: Trent Lock Golf & Country Club has applied to build four padel courts with enclosing walls and retractable roofs. Fingers crossed for planning approval soon!
Competitions
- Derbyshire County Champs – 9–10 Aug, Derby Tennis Centre: Men’s doubles compete for county bragging rights.
- Northamptonshire County Champs – 16–17 Aug, Corby Tennis Centre: The county’s first padel championship features open men’s and women’s doubles. The event aims to crown Northamptonshire’s inaugural championsnorthantslta.co.uk.
- Warwickshire County Champs – 24–25 Aug, Kenilworth LT & Squash Club: The county closed padel championships conclude the summer season and take place over two days. Perfect for players ready to test themselves against local competition.
